The "Legend of Tbilisi" tablecloth reimagines the founding story of the capital. Set against a backdrop of thermal springs, the composition vividly portrays the pheasant and the sparrowhawk, the iconic symbols of the city’s birth and the discovery of its healing sulfur waters.
According to the legend, King Vakhtang Gorgasali was hunting in the dense, untamed forests that once covered the area of present-day Abanotubani. During the hunt, he flushed out a pheasant, and his trained sparrowhawk swiftly took flight in pursuit. Shortly after, both birds were discovered in a natural hot spring. Amazed by the warmth of the waters, the King decided to build a city on that very spot, naming it "Tbilisi" - derived from the Georgian word "tbili", meaning warm.
