Saint Saba’s temple located in the Safari is dated in the 10th century at the latest. There, a 16th century mural is conserved, where Sargis, Beka, Kvarkvare, and Sargsi II are featured. Under the first image, we read “Saba Atabeg”, i.e. Sargis Jakheli himself and his three descendants. Sargis II was the ruler of Samtskhe (Georgia) in the first half of the 16th century. On the mural, he is displayed with luxurious pearls and light blue clothing with Georgian ornaments.
