After eight centuries, "The Knight in the Panther's Skin", inspired by ancient and medieval philosophical issues, is still considered as the most valuable work in Georgian literature and poetry. Shota Rustaveli was a great humanist, with universal ideas and worldview. The general Christian ideas, inspired by the main principles of humanism and Neoplatonism, is sharply conveyed in the poem. For the purpose of critical study of the poet and his work, a new field was formed in the Georgian scientific circle - Rustvelology.
